The University of Iowa Women in Computing Sciences, WiCS, is a group dedicated to encouraging young women to pursue technology-related fields and build a community of technical women at the university and beyond through community outreach, professional development, and peer networking.

We believe every woman should have equal opportunity and encouragement to pursue technical degrees. We strive to promote awareness of gender issues and to construct a safe environment for discussion and support at the university.

Throughout the year we hold several meetings which include a variety of events such as:

  • Informative tech talks from speakers at the university and from other businesses
  • Career-building workshops (Resume, interview, career fair, etc)
  • Fun social events (Movie nights, pumpkin carving, etc)

We meet at least once a month and will announce dates on our website's homepage, Instagram page, @uiowawics, and GroupMe. Everything we do is for students and by students with help from the Computer Science department, which sponsors our organization. WiCS is open to any student who identifies as a gender minority at the University of Iowa.
